Safe Kids Reminds Families to Install and Check Their Carbon Monoxide Alarms
As the weather changes to colder days and nights, more Coloradoans are turning on heaters, space heaters, fireplaces and otherwise trying to stay warn. Take this time to check fuel-burning appliances to ensure they are installed and functioning properly. Carbon monoxide (CO) is often called the "silent killer" because it is odorless, colorless and tasteless.
Symptoms often mimic the flue without a fever and can include dizziness, severe headache, nausea, sleepiness, fatigue, weakness and disorientation.
Any time a fuel-burning applicance malfunctions or is improperly installed, CO can quickly reach dangerous levels in the home, leading to injury or even death.
The only safe way to know you are being poisoned is to install a CO alarm.
