I'm 18 and about to see a gynecologist for the first time. Will the exam hurt? Does this mean I won't be a virgin anymore?

Though going for your first pelvic exam can be intimidating, most girls feel little or no discomfort during the exam, particularly when they understand what the exam is all about. It helps to stay as relaxed as possible and to remember that the exam itself takes only a short time to perform. Let your doctor know that this is your first pelvic exam. That way, your doctor will know to explain what's going on.

A pelvic exam will not affect your being a virgin. The term "virgin" means not having had sexual intercourse. Having pelvic exams and using tampons doesn't affect a girl's virginity.
