There is a lot to parenting, and no one knows your kids like you do. Sometimes you need a quick tip, a new idea, and another approach to help get past the bumps, bruises and fusses so you can get back to laughing, growing, learning and living. The Children’s Hospital’s Parent Advice Line provides you with the quick tips you need on over 275 topics related to the health of your infant, child or teenager. These free and confidential messages have been developed by Dr. Bart Schmitt, a pediatrician at The Children’s Hospital.
If there is an emergency, call 911. Do not use the Parent Advice Line to diagnose a health problem or substitute for a visit with your child’s healthcare provider. If you do not have a physician, call The Children’s Hospital ParentSmart phone line at 720-777-0123 to speak with a nurse and get the help you need finding a physician.
Instructions on How to Call the Parent Advice Line
- Find the topic you are interested in.
- Dial 720-777-6543 or 800-613-4130.
- Enter in the 4 digit code associated with your topic of interest to hear the recorded message.

Helpful Hints
Backup: If you’d like to hear a message repeated, press “B” (or the “2” key) for “Backup.” You may do this at any time while you are listening to a message on a specific topic.
Go: If you decide not to listen to a topic you have entered, press “G” (or the “4” key) for “Go”, followed by the code of the next message you want to hear.
Jump: If you want to skip ahead in the topic you are listening to, just press “J” (or the “5” key) for “jump” to jump forward.
Repeat: If you missed the first part of a message and you’d like to hear it repeated, press “R” (or the “7” key) for “Repeat”.
Cancel: If you make a mistake entering a code, simply press the “#” key to cancel.
