Preparation for Surgery Tour
Before your child's operation, you’ll want to get familiar with the hospital, and we’ll want to get familiar with you too. Come take a pre-surgery tour and meet other parents preparing for their child’s operation, preregister for your appointment and learn more about anesthesia and blood donation, which are sometimes part of surgery.
The Children’s Hospital pre-surgery tour will help you and your child envision what the day of the operation will be like. Many parents believe the tour was the best way to understand what happens before, during and after the operation, and knowing what to expect helped them and their kids feel much calmer and more relaxed the day of the procedure.
Tours are led by a staff member, take approximately one hour and are scheduled throughout the week. On your tour, you’ll meet some of our hospital staff, see the operating room, meet other families, learn your way around and talk about what happens at the hospital.
When to Tour the Hospital
Generally, younger kids have a shorter memory and older kids do better with more time to prepare. These age guidelines can help you schedule your tour:

-
3–5 years of age: one to five days before the operation.
-
6–10 years of age: one week to ten days before the operation.
-
