Child play areas are located on each inpatient floor. Designed to meet the developmental needs of patients from infancy to young adults, play areas provide patients and families an opportunity to engage in "normal" activities. A "safe zone" free from medical procedures and treatments, play rooms ease the stress of being in a hospital environment. Child play areas are staffed by volunteers who also visit rooms, providing support for patients restricted to their rooms; with many developmentally appropriate toys and activities, it is our goal to provide patients and families to engage in activities they would normally do outside the hospital.
Additional play areas are located throughout the hospital, for example, in the Ponzio Surgery Center, to help kids and their families relax prior to surgery. Intensive care areas have spaces designed to provide interventions as needed for patients, parents and siblings. And, in the Outpatient Pavilion volunteers will provide support for storytelling and engaging children in the art cart. |
