Medical Ethics at The Children's Hospital
While modern technology has vastly improved the delivery of healthcare in the United States, this technology has also increased the frequency and complexity with which ethical issues are encountered by patients, families, and healthcare providers. The Children's Hospital Ethics Committee and the Program in Bioethics at The Children's Hospital collaborate to address these ethical issues through consultation, education, policy-writing and research.
Patients, families and healthcare professionals can turn to a trained ethics consult service for assistance when:
- The good or the value of a particular course of therapy is not clear
- A proposed course of action is innovative and choices are not clear
- There is disagreement about what course of therapy should be offered and/or accepted
