06/19/2008 - In May 2008 the Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation released proceedings of a November 2007 conference entitled Continuing Education in the Health Professions: Improving Healthcare through Lifelong Learning.
Dr. Murray Kopelow, MD, the Chief Executive of ACCME, Jeanne M. Floyd, PhD the Executive Director of the American Nurses Credentialing Center and Peter Vlasses, PharmD, Executive Director, Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as staff of three major U.S. continuing professional education accreditation systems have collaborated to comment and provide important clarifications to matters raised in the proceedings of the conference.

March 2008 - The Children's Hospital has been re-surveyed by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and awarded full accreditation for 4 years as a provider of continuing medical education for physicians.
ACCME accreditation seeks to assure both physicians and the public that continuing medical education activities provided by The Children's Hospital meet the high standards of the Essential Areas, Elements and Policies for Accreditation as specified by the ACCME. The ACCME rigorously evaluates the overall continuing medical education programs of institutions according to standards adopted by all seven sponsoring organizations of the ACCME. These are: the American Board of Medical Specialties; the American Hospital Association; the American Medical Association; the Association for Hospital Medical Education; the Association of American Medical Colleges; the Council of Medical Specialty Societies; and the Federation of State Medical Boards of the U.S., Inc. "
February 2008 - The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) are pleased to announce that they have developed a proposal for Joint Accreditation for the Provider of Continuing Education for the Healthcare Team. The goal of this joint accreditation will be to support healthcare team-based education that improves patient care while streamlining accreditation processes. January 2008 - the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation released this executive summary of their November 2007 ‘conference convened to address complex issues concerning continuing education.’ Dr. Murray Kupelow, Chief Executive of the ACCME states "It is important that we read it and understand what many people perceive is not happening in accredited CME." What is Continuing Medical Education?
Continuing medical education consists of educational activities which serve to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, and professional performance and relationships that a physician uses to provide services for patients, the public, or the profession. The content of CME is that body of knowledge and skills generally recognized and accepted by the profession as within the basic medical sciences, the discipline of clinical medicine, and the provision of health care to the public.
CME Mission Statement
The Continuing Medical Education Mission of The Children’s Hospital is to identify continuing educational needs of community and regional physicians caring for children and to provide continuing medical education activities that will enhance and advance the pediatric knowledge and clinical skills of participating physicians along the continuum from primary/ambulatory care to emergency and critical care.

It is the policy of The Children's Hospital to ensure balance, independence, objectivity, and scientific rigor in all of its certified educational events. Didactic content is not influenced by commercial support. Relationships between commercial supporters and faculty will be openly disclosed to our learners at the beginning of an activity. Any conflict of interest, either perceived or real will be resolved by the CME office prior to the planning or presentation of the educational event. Faculty refusing to complete a Faculty Full Disclosure form prior to an activity are eligible for disqualification from implementation.
