TCH Tests Room Service
Patient Food Services implemented a Room Service Pilot Program on 4A in early May to test the service for the new hospital. Room Service will allow a patient to call food orders down to the Dietary Office at any time between 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. (Breakfast will continue to be served via cart.) Once the order is placed from a set menu, the meal will be delivered within 30-40 minutes.
"Patients will no longer have to wait until their floor receives its scheduled trayline visit," said Dawn Heuer, manager, Patient Food Services. "We anticipate that this service will increase patient satisfaction and decrease food waste."
Visitors also benefit from the service as they are able to order a guest tray for a small fee.
Since the pilot began the program has been well received. "The feedback has been very positive," said Heuer. "Patients are happy to receive food relatively quickly and when they are hungry."
As the transition to the new hospital nears, new floors will be added to the program so that the team may gradually prepare for the official roll-out of Room Service. The service will be provided on most, if not all, inpatient floors at the new hospital.
