Children’s Community Electronic Health Record Goes Live

On June 2, The Children’s Hospital completed the ambulatory implementation of PedsConnect , one of the nation’s first fully integrated pediatric electronic health record (EHR) and practice management systems, at Pediatrics 5280 in Centennial, Colorado. In September, Cherry Creek Pediatrics will be the second practice to implement the PedsConnect system.

PedsConnect enables pediatricians and other healthcare providers throughout the community to efficiently access and share clinical patient data at the point of care, and helps ensure that every child receives the most effective and immediate care where and when they need it. Examples of clinical patient data available through PedsConnect includes information from a patient’s encounter with their primary care physician, The Children’s Hospital outpatient clinics, local pharmacies, laboratories and the immunization registry.

Valuable benefits of PedsConnect for providers and their patients include:

• Fostering collaboration with physicians, hospitals and public agencies, and improving the pediatric-health status of Colorado.

• Enabling best practices and evidence-based disease management.

• Supporting local and national health and disease-reporting initiatives.

• Providing shared reporting of quality improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives.

• Supporting enhanced medical research and clinical trials.

• Bridging the gap between the inpatient and outpatient worlds by creating a product that is integrated with the hospital inpatient record.
