Creating an Innovative Environment for Research on the Anschutz Medical Campus

from Practice Update, Winter 2007

Research Complex 1 is a 622,000 square-foot facility and represents the first phase of research construction on the Anschutz Medical Campus. Two buildings (12-story and nine story towers) make up RC1, which contains 241 laboratory modules, a bridge link between the buildings, an auditorium, teaching space and offices.

The 20 core laboratories include mass spectrometry, X-ray crystallography, electron microscopy, a 900 mega-hertz nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer, DNA array and peptide protein chemistry.

Education areas, located on the first floor of the north building, provide easy access for students and faculty. Two auditoriums, a 200-seat research auditorium and a 100-seat education auditorium, are used daily for classes and lectures. Multimedia technology allows for broadcasting between auditoriums or out to the research community.

Research Complex 2 is currently under construction to the west of RC1. RC2 will add 500,000 square feet of research space to the overall project. Completion is scheduled for December 2008.
