Information Technology at The Children’s Hospital

from Practice Update, Winter 2006

As the New Year rings in, The Children’s Hospital will meet many of its lofty resolutions to improve the information technologies used in every aspect of patient care. Many of these projects have been in the making for several years and upon fruition in 2006, will result in expedited information management as more data resides only a click away. The days of trekking to medical records to review and sign charts will come to an end, as we embrace paperless systems. We are beginning to look towards the enhanced technologies of our future hospital site and innovations they will provide.

These technology enhancements aim to boost our quality of care and customer service to you and your patients. In this issue of Practice Update , we will update you about changes you may have already noticed and what to expect in 2006, including:

  • Our electronic medical record system and what it means to you and your practice. Children’s will be one of the first pediatric hospital in the country to fully integrate its patients’ electronic medical records
  • Updated information-rich Web site resources for health-care professionals and patient families
  • The enhanced technology of The new Children’s Hospital
  • Tele-education and tele-health opportunities
  • Clinical informatics: what is it and why it is important to you
