Surgery Space Takes Shape At New Hospital

from Practice Update, Fall 2005

Construction of The new Children’s Hospital on the Fitzsimons Campus is moving right along as the outside structure is complete and the interior space is rapidly taking shape. The second floor operating rooms were the first to take shape, with the dry wall already complete. In order to begin this phase of construction all electrical and ventilation systems were completed and the placement for lights and booms was finalized on the second floor.

The next step in development of the OR space includes the selection of OR integration software. Surgical faculty will be making site visits with both Stryker and Storz to view the installation of their equipment before a decision is made.

The cardiovascular operating rooms on the third floor are beginning to take shape as well. The ceiling structure was designed to allow for placement of the booms for these surgical suites, which were placed in early September.

In addition to the trialing of integration equipment surgical faculty will have the opportunity to participate in the selection of additional OR equipment, including microscopes and room tables, later this fall.
