Hospital will have a look and feel that
supports The Children's Hospital's
family-centered care philosophy,
helping kids heal faster and reducing
the stress of a hospital visit for everyone.

The Children’s Hospital announced on September 15 that it will open a new pediatric hospital within a hospital at Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital in late summer 2007, before the new facility opens at Fitzsimons. The new entity fulfills Children’s commitment to maintain a significant presence in downtown Denver, in addition to continuing its initiatives and partnerships with other healthcare organizations. The new facility, which will include urgent care and emergency services, observation beds and inpatient beds, will be housed in completely renovated space at Saint Joseph Hospital.

Facts About The Children’s Hospital at Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital

  • The new 17,500 square-foot pediatric hospital within a hospital at St. Joseph Hospital will have a look and feel that supports our family-centered care philosophy.
  • The new Children’s facility at Saint Joseph Hospital will have approximately 45 staff members, including doctors, nurses and other care providers.
  • Entrance to Children’s emergency services will be on westbound 18th with short-term parking immediately outside the entrance for families with emergencies.
  • Both urgent care and emergency services will be provided at the new hospital. It will include:
    • Exam and treatment rooms
    • On-site radiology
    • On-site laboratory
    • On-site pharmacy
    • Electronic medical record and imaging interface with Saint Joseph and other Children’s locations
    • A family-friendly seating area
  • Each of the 12 Children’s inpatient rooms will feature:
    • Family sleeping accommodations
    • Individual bathrooms with showers
    • Internet access for both educational and entertainment use for children and business access for families
    • New and spacious rooms to accommodate families and emerging technology
