Study Shows Travel Time For Child Donor Hearts Can Be Longer

The Press Enterprise

A new study conducted by Dr. Leonard Bailey from the Loma Linda University research center has found children’s hearts may be more resilient than we think. Last year heart transplant surgeons in the United States rejected over 150 child donor hearts. According to the Loma Linda research center these hearts may have been used.

Dr. David Campbell, of The Children’s Hospital, believes the study shows promise in using hearts for transplant with longer travel times between the donor and recipient. The study concluded there was "no significant difference" in the survival rate of children whose hearts had been rejected by other hospitals and those whose hearts had not.
