Children's Teams Up to Help Prevent Child Abuse

9News

Over 40,000 cases of suspected child abuse are reported each year in Colorado. On Aug. 18, Children's partnered with The Kempe Foundation and The Tennyson Center for the 9News Child Abuse Helpline in efforts to reduce the number of child abuse cases in Colorado.

People called in to the helpline and spoke to staff members from the The Kempe Foundation and The Tennyson Center to get answers to questions on topics such as preventing child abuse, what to do if you suspect a child might be being abused and how to help a parent or caregiver you suspect might be losing control and at risk of abusing a child.

One of our volunteers at the Kempe Foundation, Tracy Rivera, told her story to 9News, speaking about how she has used her experiences with child abuse to help other children cope with the trauma of out-of-home placement.
