U.S. News Again Ranks The Children's Hospital in Top 10

Magazine rates Children's 7th in nation for 2008

DENVER, CO (May 29, 2008) – The Children’s Hospital has been ranked once again among the top 10 hospitals in the country by U.S.News & World Report.

Children’s ranks seventh in the magazine’s “2008 America’s Best Children’s Hospitals” issue, which features a detailed ranking of the finest pediatric facilities in the United States. The Children’s Hospital has been ranked nationally by U.S.News & World Report every year since its 1993 inception. The exclusive data will be published in the magazine’s June 9 issue, on newsstands June 2.

"To maintain our top 10 ranking during Children's centennial year—a poignant chapter in the hospital’s history—is a testament to our team’s remarkable efforts," said Jim Shmerling, DHA, FACHE, president and chief executive officer, The Children's Hospital. "Our staff, physicians and volunteers have consistently done an outstanding job in providing the best in patient care, education, research and advocacy, and this recognition validates their extraordinary work and commitment to children, our future's most precious resource."

The 2008 America’s Best Children’s Hospitals issue rates the nation’s top-30 hospitals in general pediatrics and six pediatric specialties. The Children’s Hospital made the list in every category, ranking seventh for general pediatrics, fifth for digestive and respiratory disorders and seventh for neonatal care. Our programs in neurology and neurosurgery, heart care and cancer also ranked among the best in America.

In 2007 Children’s ranked fourth overall. This year the specialty rankings in America’s Best Children’s Hospitals were based on a new and improved methodology that weighed a three-part blend of reputation, outcome, and care-related measures such as nursing care, advanced technology, credentialing, and other factors. A detailed description of the methodology can be found at www.usnews.com/pediatrics.

This year, The Children’s Hospital celebrates 100 years of pediatric healthcare excellence. Founded in 1908, The Children’s Hospital is a leading pediatric network entirely devoted to the health and wellbeing of children.

Continually recognized as one of the nation’s outstanding hospitals by U.S. News & World Report, The Children’s Hospital is known both for its nationally and internationally recognized medical, research and education programs as well as the full spectrum of everyday care for kids throughout Colorado and surrounding states. With more than 1,000 healthcare professionals representing the full spectrum of pediatric specialties, The Children’s Hospital Network of Care includes its main campus, 14 Children’s Care Centers and more than 400 outreach clinics.
