Chief Medical Officer Announced
Joan Bothner, MD, an associate professor in the department of pediatrics, has been named The Children's Hospital's (TCH) Chief Medical Officer.
Dr. Bothner has been with TCH since 1991 when she became the first physician to serve in the role of Medical Director of the emergency department at Children's, and Chief of the Section of Emergency Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, University of Colorado School of Medicine. Dr. Bothner provided the leadership to develop a regional tertiary pediatric emergency department, which is now ranked in the top five pediatric emergency departments nationally. She was also instrumental in developing the Short Stay Unit concept, leading to a highly effective unit with proven high patient and referring physician satisfaction, a unique multidisciplinary approach to care, and decreased length of stay.
Since 2005, Dr. Bothner has served in the capacity of vice president of Physician Services, Network and Ambulatory Operations, playing a critical role in strategy development, and in connectivity and enhanced relationships with referring physicians.
