The Children's Hospital Ranks Top 10 in Nation by Child Magazine

High Marks Earned in Orthopedics, Heart, Emergency, Pulmonary and Cancer Care

The Children’s Hospital has been named one of the top 10 best children’s hospitals in the nation in the February 2007 issue of Child Magazine.

Among U.S. children’s hospitals surveyed, Children’s Orthopedics Program ranks third, its Emergency Department fifth, The Children’s Hospital Heart Institute fifth, its Pulmonary Medicine sixth and Oncology program eighth. The rankings follow a rigorous survey process that consisted of 247 multi-layered questions that examined vital medical information including survival rates, the number of complex procedures and intricate surgeries, volume of research studies, efforts to reduce medical errors, and the quality and training of doctors and nurses—as well as child-friendliness, support for families and community involvement.

“Collectively, these rankings help us to maintain and grow our longstanding tradition of excellence,†said Children’s President and CEO Jim Shmerling, DHA. “Without the dedication and passion of our medical and administrative teams, we would not be able to make The Children’s Hospital such a great place for babies, children, teens and their families. Recognition of this stature gives our patients and families another reason to understand how “it’s all better†at The Children’s Hospital.â€

Child Magazine conducts its surveys every two years. In 2006, more then 75 hospitals participated in the survey process.
