MD News ran a cover story in their March/April issue about The Children’s Hospital and University of Colorado Hospital joining forces to offer the latest treatments in caring for high-risk moms and babies. The article highlights our current and future collaborations and includes interviews with Jim Shmerling, president and CEO; Bruce Schroffel, president and CEO of University of Colorado Hospital; Adel Younoszai, MD, director of fetal cardiology and the complex congenital heart disease program; Lana Yoder, perinatal program coordinator; and Henry Galan, MD, chief of maternal fetal medicine and co-director of the Colorado High Risk Maternity and Newborn Program.
Dr. Shmerling explained the importance of the collaboration, "Most of the programs around the country still separate maternal and fetal programs. We're bringing together the best of these programs in one place. That will allow us to intervene when a child has a potentially fatal disease, discover better ways to treat and diagnose diseases and eventually prevent certain diseases from occurring. Our program will help accelerate discovery and will become a major resource here and around the country."
