A lighting ceremony was held at The Children's Hospital Tuesday, April 1, to help commence Child Abuse Prevention Month. The blue lights and ribbon along the trees and walkways of the hospital symbolized the protection of children and are part of a plan to help raise awareness surrounding the issue of child abuse.
Dr. Andy Sirotnak, director of the Children's Hospital Child Protection Team, commented on the ceremony.
"The blue ribbon is a reminder of the physical and emotional trauma that children go through when they are victims of abuse and neglect," he said. "The light itself that we are bringing into this ceremony represents hope and hope in the lives of darkness of abused kids."
