STD Numbers Add Up to "Staggering" Challenge

A Denver Post article highlights a growing concern in the battle against sexually transmitted diseases among teenagers. In reaction to a recently released federal study, which revealed that one in four teenage American girls has a sexually transmitted disease, a Denver school board has received the recommendation to distribute contraceptives at school.
Dr. Kaplan, chief of adolescent medicine at Children's, commented, "There's this sense in early and mid-adolescence that it's not going to happen to me, that somehow I'm special, I'm not at risk for this. All kids really need to be educated to protect themselves."
