Psychiatry Outpatient Specialty Clinics

The Children's Hospital offers a series of outpatient specialty clinics for youth ages 5-17 and their families from the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. This program serves children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems and their families. The clinics serve patients with any psychiatric diagnosis or a combination of illnesses.

Experienced, Pediatric-Trained Clinicians

A multidisciplinary team supports the specialty clinics and the staff includes:

  • Psychiatric Registered Nurses
  • Creative Art Therapists
  • Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurses

Outpatient Specialty Clinics Schedules and Components

All clinics include psychosocial assessments, psychiatric evaluations, psychological evaluations and testing, medication management and individual, family and group therapy.

Developmentally Delayed/Pervasive Development Disorders Clinic

This clinic manages children with Developmental delays, autism, Asperger syndrome or any type of pervasive developmental disorder.

  • Mondays on the fourth floor of the East Pavilion

Disruptive Behavior Disorders Clinic

This clinic manages children with disruptive behavior disorders including attention deficit hyperactivity and oppositional defiant disorder.

  • Wednesdays and Thursdays on the fourth floor of the East Pavilion

General Psychiatry Clinic

This clinic manages children with psychiatric disorders, and any diagnosis will qualify for evaluation and management in medication clinics. Medication management will usually be offered in combination with psychosocial therapies.

Mood and Psychotic Disorders Clinic

This clinic manages children with mood and psychotic disorders, including depression, bipolar disorder or any type of psychosis, including schizophrenia or schizo affective disorder.

  • Wednesdays on the fourth floor of the East Pavilion

Stress/Anxiety Clinic

This clinic manages children presenting with stress and anxiety, alone or with medical illness, including generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, social phobia and separation anxiety disorder. Another form of therapy offered with this clinic is yoga therapy.

Clinical Research Trials

Clinical research trials will be imbedded in most clinics, offering patients diagnostic evaluations, medication management and family and group therapy at no cost to patients who are eligible.

The Psychiatry Outpatient Specialty Clinics are located on the fourth floor of the East Pavilion at The new Children’s Hospital. The address is 13123 E. 16th Ave., Aurora, CO 80045, near the intersection of I-225 and East Colfax Avenue.

Referral Information

Referrals for outpatient mental health services are made through our Intake Team. Our team will make every effort to work with insurance companies, although not all insurances will authorize treatment at The Children’s Hospital. Financial counseling is also available.

Patients who cannot be managed adequately with routine outpatient treatment are eligible for enrollment in The Children’s Hospital Intensive Outpatient Psychiatry Program (IOP). IOP is an enhanced, intensive form of psychiatric intervention for more acute patients.

To request a new-patient evaluation or mental health services for your child, please call the Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Intake Team at (720) 777-6200. If your child is booked for a new evaluation, you will be required to download and complete the following paperwork prior to your appointment.
