Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program
The Children's Hospital Dental Center and the Healthy Smiles Dental Clinic are the teaching sites for The Children's Hospital Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program. Both are staffed with our faculty members who, in concert with residents and dental students, serve more than 25,000 infants, children and adolescents each year in these clinics.
Recognized as experts in pediatric dentistry, the dental staff focuses on minimizing the emotional, physical and psychological conditions that might favor the development of avoidance behaviors about seeking regular oral health care.
Our dental specialists provide comprehensive oral healthcare, perform evaluations and are the source of referrals for complex dental and craniofacial conditions.
We also provide general anesthesia services when needed and, together with our community partners, perform nearly 2,000 surgeries a year, often in conjunction with other surgical services in order to better coordinate care and minimize costs to families.
Focus on Children with Special Healthcare Needs
The Children's Hospital Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program is one of only a handful of programs in an eight-state region making dental care for children with special health care needs a top priority. The dental clinic collaborates with other departments in the treatment of oncology and hematology, cleft-lip and palate, and epidermolysis bullosa (EB) patients.
Board-certified faculty members provide comprehensive specialty training to resident dentists, including pharmacological management of patients, pediatric medicine, emergency care, diagnostic, and restorative skills, and child growth and development. Our dentists focus on being the primary care providers for all children with oral healthcare needs who are underserved or disadvantaged in the state of Colorado.
