Research at The Children's Hospital

Imagine having your sick or injured child in the hands of a doctor who treats children - only children - every day, and is also a leader in the research of causes and treatments of childhood diseases and injuries. Or hearing from your child’s surgeon about the latest advancements in minimally invasive surgery and pediatric pain management. Even discussing rehabilitation for a sports injury with a top specialist in pediatric rehabilitation research. Sound reassuring? Then you’ve come to the right place.

Academic Affiliation

The Children’s Hospital, in affiliation with the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine, has been a national center for pediatric research for over 40 years. Our Pediatric Clinical Translational Research Center (CTRC) is one of only eight centers in the country that work exclusively in pediatric research. Our physician-scientists have pioneered seminal research in the treatment of pediatric liver disease, infectious disease and vaccines, pediatric and adolescent HIV/AIDS, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, pediatric cardiology and neonatology .

Hundreds of pediatric research protocols and clinical trials across both medical and surgical specialties are active at any one time. We are also one of the top recipients of National Institutes of Health funding in the country. At The Children's Hospital, your child gets the best of the best because the doctors, nurses and clinical staff who treat our young patients are also researchers at the forefront of their fields.

comprises over 600,000 square feet
of cancer and biomedical research
space.  Research Complex 2 is now
under construction adjacent to RC1
on the Anschutz Medical Campus
and is scheduled to open in 2008.

Research on the Anschutz Medical Campus

The new Children’s Hospital opens as the epicenter of pediatric healthcare in the Rocky Mountain region. The Children’s Hospital proudly sits in the first university-affiliated bio-park west of the Mississippi River, including 600,000 square feet of research space, two adult hospitals and the University of Colorado’s medical, dental, nursing and pharmacy schools. Our 1.4 million square-foot hospital, the expansion of a national and international staff of expert clinicians and researchers, and our affiliation with the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine promise that we will continue to pioneer some of the newest treatments, latest preventions and most promising cures.

With the build out of the new Anschutz Medical Campus, over 1 million square feet of adult and pediatric research space will be completed by 2008, creating one of the largest healthcare research complexes in the world. Additionally, the Colorado Bioscience Park Aurora, located to the north of the Anschutz campus, provides opportunities for early-stage and start-up research-oriented biotechnology. The Park’s location, adjacent to one of the largest academic medical centers in the western U.S, will facilitate the use of emerging science to pioneer discoveries benefiting global healthcare.
